On Friday, May 29th at 2pm Miali Coley-Sudlovenick taught a lesson in Contemporary Children’s Songs in Inuktitut. Miali taught translated songs by explaining the songs meanings in Inuktitut to give participants a better grasp of the words. Examples of songs that were taught in Inuktitut: Twinkle Twinkle, Incy-Wincy Spider, Little Cabin in the Wood, 40 Years On An Iceberg, Are You Sleeping?, Head and Shoulders, and 5 Little Ducks. These songs are she learned growing up, and are easy to access after the workshop has ended.

The workshop took place online using Zoom. This workshop, like all De-ICE-olation workshops, is free. This workshop was open to the public and to all levels of Inuktitut speakers (beginner to fluent). Miali hopes this workshop gave participants the chance is to learn a bit of Inuktitut through songs. Miali supplied the songs in Roman Orthography as well as Inuktitut Syllabics.

Miali Coley-Sudlovenick is a born and raised Iqalummiuq who loves to teach and spend time with her family. Being Inuk and Jamaican challenges Miali to learn about her two very different cultures and take the time to learn from others from home or during her travels.
